Weight Loss Game
What I need: I need individuals in my area (Near Saint Clair Shores, MI) to support me in my effort to lose weight by enforcing the penalties listed below. I would meet with this individual weekly to weigh in. It will be this individuals responsibility to judge how I did (Judge, Jury and Executioner). If this is you contact me via email at spankmesilly01@hotmail.com.
Prerequisites:
A little history: I joined a weight loss program awhile back and have had my ups and downs through out the program. I started out really strong like I do with most programs then started to fall off. I really needed something to get my mind back on the program and to really get my attention. My counselor would ask me what was needed to get me back on track and jokingly I would say a kick in the butt. After thinking about it for awhile I decided to try and make a weight loss game to try and motivate me. My counselor was really happy that I took the initiative to find away to motivate myself. The game was working well, consistently motivating me to make the right food choices through visualization. By imposing a real threat into the game it broke through my weekly challenges and it helped me overcome my weight loss demons. The game worked great I had lost a total of 47lbs - Unfortunately I have lost my support and have slid back resorting to my old eating habits. Since then I have gained back all 47lbs plus a few additional pounds.
The Game: Since I did not respond well to programs that offer me rewards I needed to go the penalty route to help keep me get on track. The game worked on two areas of my brain: one to make me feel physically uncomfortable and two to make me feel emotionally uncomfortable. The game works like this:
The game consisted of three penalties:
Visualization: During the week every time I wanted to make the wrong food choice I would visualize being kicked in the butt – not a pleasant thought for me. This really made me think twice about making the wrong choice before I actually made it since I know it was going to make me physically uncomfortable. The second point in the visualization targeted my emotions I really did not want to be embarrassed by being made to get down on my knees while someone kicked me. Most of the time this visualization technique worked before I made the wrong choice however there were times were I made the wrong choice and visualized after the fact. This still worked since I would make the appropriate correction during the week (Like increase exercise) to avoid getting kicked. By thinking about how much it was going to hurt and how embarrassed I was going to be having to do it I was able to behave myself.
Scoring: I would score myself based on food and exercise choices - for example if I ate an extra serving of bread I would mark down 1kb and for each 30 minutes of exercise I would mark down -1kb. The goal is by the end of the week to either have 0kb or a negative kb - by the way kb=kick butt :)
